It is with immense sadness that Moreton Bay College announces the passing of our beloved Leita Boswell (nee Beattie). Mrs Boswell was an exceptional educator, whose association with Moreton Bay College spanned 40 years from 1957 to 1997.

Appointed in 1957 to the Junior School as Resident Mistress, Miss Beattie cared for approximately 110 boarding students. She was fondly remembered by the boarders of the late 1950’s and 1960’s as a compassionate, loving and stylish caregiver who supported them in their home away from home. Mrs Boswell was an integral part of the Primary School teaching staff and when the College relocated to Wondall Road, was appointed to the role of Head of Primary.

Mrs Boswell’s focus was on the development of the whole person in line with the traditional ethos of Moreton Bay College - care and concern for others, love and compassion for family, and loyalty, honour, and commitment to others.

After a long and distinguished career, Mrs Boswell retired in 1997. Ken Waller, Principal at the time, wrote that she was “easily the most significant person associated with the Primary School over the last five decades. Generations of former students and their families will attest to that.”

Her unwavering commitment to the College, particularly in the days when Moreton Bay College was threatened with closure, is her enduring legacy to the College. In 1999, in recognition of her service, the new Primary School general-purpose building was named the Leita Boswell Hall.

After her retirement, Mrs Boswell continued to be involved in College life and often attended special events and assemblies to hand out awards and enjoy performances.

The College offers our heartfelt condolences to the Boswell family, her husband Ron, daughter Cathy and grandchildren, Tom, Sophie and William. Further details will be provided about the funeral service for Mrs Boswell.

Memories of our dear Mrs Boswell will live on in the rich history of our College. Today ends a significant chapter in our story and we thank Mrs Boswell for the invaluable role she played in 40 years of faithful service. She will be greatly missed.

Gracious God

You generously give to us the gift of life. You guide us through all of our days. When our days draw to an end You are ever-present to lead us through Death’s dark vale.

On this day we give thanks for your presence In and through the rich and committed life of Leita Boswell, Who is now in your nearer presence.

Be with all who mourn her passing, her family, her friends and this community. Comfort us all with the familiarity and touch of your peace.

We especially thank you for her commitment To the Moreton Bay College Community As a mother, a teacher, and as a leader of our community.

Whilst for many current staff and students Leita Boswell’s name is only present Through its legacy in the naming of a hall, We know her presence looms large in our history.

We remember that through her commitment the school was guided through some difficult times. She gave generously of herself to keep the school going And dedicated herself to students, staff and families alike.

Creator of all, in the midst of our sadness and tears Bring us courage and hope in the promise of your resurrection And the knowledge that Leita is now at home with you.

In Christ’s name we pray.

Amen
