Dear Parents and Caregivers,
The restrictions in place as a result of COVID-19 continue to have a considerable impact on College preparations for end of year celebrations.
Venues we would normally use may no longer be able to accommodate our gathered College community because of the changing government regulations around venue capacity. Thus, we continue to adapt ‘traditional’ plans to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our girls, their families and staff in line with current Queensland Health restrictions. While every endeavour will be made to maximise attendance and proceed with live events, within the bounds of the ever-changing COVID landscape, this unfortunately cannot be guaranteed.
The format for several significant Primary events – the PYP Exhibition and the Primary Celebrations of Learning – are currently being discussed. However, we would like to confirm the following events in the College calendar.
In October, and based on the current level of restrictions, the following events will proceed:
- Tuesday 5 October – The Carter Shield Public Speaking Competition. This event will be a live event and students and families will be invited to attend the 3 school competition (MBC, MBBC and Iona College) in the Music Centre.
- Wednesday 6 October – Sports Awards Evening. This will be a live audience event in the Music Centre.
- Friday 8 October – Viva and Music Awards Evening. The event will proceed with live performances from our choirs and ensembles and an invited audience of our College families.
- Saturday 16 October - The MBC Dance Showcase. The event will proceed with two live performances from our curriculum Dance students, our Primary, Junior and Senior Dance Troupes. Awards for co-curricular Dance and the College Musical will be announced and presented during the evening performance. The times for the two live performances will be at 1.00pm and 6.00pm.
In November:
- Wednesday 17 November - Secondary Academic Achievement & Service Awards Evening. This event will be live and families of awardees will be invited to join us to celebrate student achievements. Please note, as a result of the new QCE system, Year 12 Academic subject prizes, Proxime Accessit and Dux will be presented at the Scholars’ and Academic Awards ceremony in February 2022. It is our hope that parents will be able to join us at this significant awards ceremony next year.
The College is doing all we can to prioritise parental involvement for our current Year 12 students in the end of year celebrations. Our graduating students have faced considerable disruptions in their critical final year of schooling, and we are committed to supporting them safely and appropriately as we celebrate the culmination of their Bay journey. Mrs Kay Gleeson – our Head of Secondary – will communicate the details of the Year 12 end of year events in the next few weeks.
I know you will join with me in wishing our Class of 2021 well as they embark on the final months of their formal schooling at MBC and enjoy the celebratory milestones that have been 13-years in the making!
May I express my gratitude to all the staff responsible for the extensive planning involved in rescheduling and reimagining these significant College events in the current climate.
Kind Regards
