On Monday, 5 June 2023, The Moreton Bay Colleges’ welcomed friends of the College to the grand opening of our expanded Early Learning Precinct featuring two new, purpose-built learning spaces, officially opened by Her Excellency the Honourable Dr Jeannette Young AC PSM, Governor of Queensland.

Our College Community that attended the opening included; Her Excellency the Honourable Dr Jeannette Young AC PSM, Governor of Queensland; Ms Joan Pease MP, State Member for Lytton; Reverend Andrew Gunton, Representative of the Queensland Synod; Ms Samantha O’Brien, Chair of the Board of Governors; Mr Richard Henry, CEO and Executive Principal; Mrs Janet Stewart, Principal of Moreton Bay College; Mr Andrew Holmes, Principal of the Moreton Bay Boys’ College; as well as staff and stakeholders who were crucial in the development of the new Precinct. 

We opened the morning with a performance from our youngest Training Choir, compiled of students from our Moreton Bay College Prep class, performing a beautiful rendition of “It’s Ruff Being a Dog.” 

Her Excellency the Honourable Dr Jeannette Young AC PSM, Governor of Queensland, addressed the audience and spoke of her own ties to the College, her passion for education and the impact of early education for our youngest Queenslanders.  

Her Excellency revealed the new plaque with CEO and Executive Principal Mr Richard Henry announcing The Moreton Bay Colleges’ Early Learning Precinct Expansion officially open.  

Reverend Andrew Gunton, representative of the Queensland Synod of the Uniting Church also delivered a blessing of the centre and concluded our official proceedings. 

Her Excellency toured the new Early Learning Precinct and read her book “A Place For All Queenslanders” to a very excited Prep Class. Leaving the class with copies of the book, the Governor of Queensland Coin and lasting memories. 

We have been working closely alongside the architects, Bickerton Masters, and Landscape Architects Wearthy to create a space that is strongly connected to the land and influenced by the Italian Reggio Emilia approach. 

The design also offers a purpose-built Atelier (art studio) and a kitchen garden space. The children can explore, discover, create, and engage with the world around them. 

Our new learning spaces seamlessly blend the inside and outside learning environment, with a child-centred, inquiry approach that fosters children’s agency in a flexible learning space.
