eLearning and BYOD

Moreton Bay College places great emphasis on the information technology environment in which our staff and students work and learn. The provision of this rich technological environment enables students to develop their IT skills and use technology as a tool for their learning.

eSmart

Moreton Bay College is an eSmart school. An eSmart school is a school where the smart, safe and responsible use of information and communications technology is a cultural norm. Students, teachers and the wider school community are equipped to embrace the best these technologies can offer while being savvy about the pitfalls. eSmart schools connect Curriculum, Pastoral and IT to enable the management of digital citizenship, smart use of ICTs, cyberbullying and bullying.

The Student IT Environment

Primary students can access computers within their classrooms or in their own computer laboratory and all Primary classrooms in Years P to 6 are equipped with an Interactive Whiteboard. All Secondary classrooms have fixed data projectors, and a number of rooms also have Interactive Whiteboards. The college BYOD programme now sees girls from Years 4 to 12 having access to a device and students in Prep to Year 3 have access to classroom devices. Secondary students also have the use of two computer laboratories and numerous classroom devices.

BYOD programme

The College BYOD programme provides the opportunity for students, and families, to choose the device students use in class. This allows student to select and configure a device which best meets their personal likes and individual learning needs. The programme also ensures that students have a seamless learning experience as they move between home, school and alternative wireless environments, such as local libraries. Parents and students can choose the device (Windows or Apple) that they are comfortable using. Suggested device specifications are provided upon enrolment.

Support Network

The ICT infrastructure is maintained by the ICT staff, including the Associate Director of Information Technology, Network Administrator, IT Services Coordinator and two IT Service Support staff. The IT Centre is open from 8.00am until 3.30pm on most weekdays in the year (excluding the College shutdown periods) and has an onsite helpdesk.
