Information Technology Services

Moreton Bay College places great emphasis on the information technology environment in which our staff and students work and learn. The provision of this rich technological environment enables our staff and students to develop their IT skills throughout their years at the College and to use technology as a tool for their learning.

eSmart

Moreton Bay College is an eSmart school. An eSmart school is a school where the smart, safe and responsible use of information and communications technology is a cultural norm. Students, teachers and the wider school community are equipped to embrace the best these technologies can offer, while being savvy about the pitfalls. eSmart schools connect Curriculum, Pastoral and IT to enable the management of digital citizenship, smart use of ICTs, cyberbullying and bullying.

The Student IT Environment

We have a strong and developing ICT program from Prep through to Year 12 and Information Technology (together with Food and Textile Technology) forms one of the nine MBC Learning Areas and is a core part of the curriculum 1-10. Primary students can access computers within their classrooms or in their own computer laboratory and all Primary classrooms in Years P to 7 are equipped with an Interactive Whiteboard. All Secondary classrooms have fixed data projectors and a number of rooms also have Interactive Whiteboards. A student notebook program now sees girls from Years 4 to 12 having access to either a school provided notebook or a BYOD device. Secondary students also have the use of three computer laboratories and numerous classroom devices.

Staff and Technology

All of our teachers have access to their own tablet device. E-mail is commonly used by all members of the College community as a communication medium and the College Intranet and TASS administration system are used regularly. Teachers and students in both the Primary and Secondary schools make extensive use of Moodle as their Learning Management System and Microsoft OneNote as their electronic notebook. Students and teachers have further access to digital content through the Clickview digital video library, the Atomic Learning site and through a number of online databases that the College subscribes to. In the Primary School, the SeeSaw app is increasingly being used as a digital portfolio for classroom activities.

The whole MBC campus is covered by a wireless network enabling students and teachers to access the College ICT resources anywhere. 24/7 web portals mean that our students (Student Cafe), teachers (Teacher Kiosk) and parents (Parent Lounge) can access the TASS Administration portal and our Learning Management System at any time. All students and staff have an Office 365 subscription, giving them access to online email, the Office suite and Microsoft SharePoint.

Support Network

The ICT infrastructure is maintained by the ICT staff, including the Director of IT, Network Manager, Network Administrator, IT Services Coordinator and two IT Service Support staff.  The IT Centre is open from 8.00am until 3.30pm on most weekdays in the year (excluding the three week College shutdown period over Christmas) and has an onsite helpdesk.
