Drama and Speech and Communication
Moreton Bay College recognises that effective communication skills are fundamental to success in all facets of life. There are two extra-curricular programmes at the College that are designed to develop clear, confident and expressive communication skills.
Speech and Communication
Lessons are taken individually or in pairs or trios and focus on clear speech, vocal range, text interpretation, public speaking, interpersonal communication skills, presentation skills and performance. Students can also choose to develop individual acting skills. Students are provided performance opportunities throughout the school year in a variety of forums. Additionally students can elect to take examinations to benchmark their development with Trinity Guidhall or the Australian Music Examinations Board. Lessons can take place during class time on a rotational timetable. More information can be found here.
Group Drama classes are offered after school from Years 1 to 10. Various dramatic forms are explored such as creative movement, improvisation, mime, clowning, play-building, process and collage drama and play production. Presentation opportunities are provided throughout the school year. An inquiry based approach to learning is valued with a focus on process, not just product. During lessons students practise a variety of appropriate social skills in a safe and supportive environment. More information can be found here.
Both programmes are conducted by qualified and experienced tutors. For further information about either programme please contact the coordinators -
Speech & Communication: Ms Annette Stoddart
Group Drama: Miss Talisa Pariss
