WELCOME TO THE SCHOOL YEAR

The following information has been compiled to assist in making your commencement this year at MBC a smooth one. Should you have any additional enquiries, please contact Primary Reception on 07 3249 9360.

COLLEGE HANDBOOKS

The College publishes a number of handbooks online which are available for parent reference including the Student and Parent Handbook and Co-Curricular Handbook. These can be found on the website at

 https://www.mbc.qld.edu.au/mym...

BUS ROUTES

There are numerous bus routes that service the College in the morning and afternoon. Details of the bus routes can be found here https://www.mbc.qld.edu.au/essentials/public-transport

SHUTTLE BUS BETWEEN MBBC AND MBC

If you have a daughter attending MBC, the free MBBC shuttle bus leaves the MBBC campus each morning at 7:50am to take students to MBC. The pick-up point is at the covered shelter in the drop-off/pick-up zone in the parent car park at MBBC. The girls will be dropped off near the Prep area at MBC.

The same shuttle will depart MBC from the same point at 8.05am to bring any MBBC students back to MBBC.

If you would like to use either morning service for your children, please book a place by emailing mail@mbc.qld.edu.au

There is also a shuttle bus departing MBBC for MBC at 2.55pm (P to 6) and 3.15pm (7 to 12) from next to the yellow boom gate at the top of the hill for students attending co-curricular activities at the MBC Campus in the afternoon.

If you would like to use this afternoon service for your children, please book a place by emailing admin@mbbc.qld.edu.au.

BRING YOUR OWN DEVICE (BYOD)

Students in Year 3 and new students in Year 4-6 will receive instructions from their classroom teacher with regards to connecting their iPads. If parents would like the link to the BYOD Parent information session that was delivered online in Term 4 last year please make contact with the Primary Office.

WEBSITE ACCESS

In order to meet requirements as an eSmart School, the 'mymbc' section of the College website is a restricted access portal. Parents can access web pages within this area by entering your Username (Parent Code) and your password (BPAY Reference Number). Both of these details are present on the fee statements you receive from the College each term.

SCHOOL COMMUNICATIONS

Correspondence from the College will be predominately sent to families via email and through the SeeSaw App (information will follow for new families about this method). We encourage you to ensure email addresses and emergency contact details are always kept up to date via the MBC website 'Parent Lounge'. All edits and updates can be modified in the 'Parent Details' tab. In the case of an emergency this is used as the school's database to contact parents.

A fortnightly newsletter is emailed to parents to communicate any changes or important notices. Upcoming events are posted online via the MBC website or MBC College App, the App is also used for immediate announcements with general notices posted to the school's Facebook page. Please "Like" the Facebook page to be kept updated with activities from the school.

NEW UNIFORM ITEMS UPDATE

It was our hope that we would begin 2021, with students having the option to wear shorts and a new style of checked shirt in the summer, followed by an autumn Term 2 choice of trousers. Unfortunately due to circumstances outside the College’s control, these new uniform options will be delayed. We have been working with our suppliers however their production of the shorts has been delayed due to the very late arrival of the fabric into the factory. COVID-19 has affected international shipping and the supply chains are not as reliable as they have been in the past. This will be compounded by the Chinese New Year holidays in February, and thus further fabric required will not leave the factory between the 12 and 28 February. Therefore, the earliest we can get the summer blouses and shorts in the adult sizes is mid to late March.

Furthermore, with respect to the trousers and white blouse, the sample for the trousers is yet to be released through customs. We are also awaiting a sample of the blouse fabric.

Sadly, this means that we will not receive the garments in time for fitting the girls for the end of Term 1 or for the start of Term 2. Like many of you, we are very disappointed. We knew that when this proposal was endorsed that the uniform shop would be working on extremely tight timelines to have the garments for the start of Term 1 and Term 2, and they have worked tirelessly last term and over the holiday break to make this happen. Unfortunately, COVID-19 and other factors have conspired against the timely delivery of our new uniform options.

Adapting to these changes of delivery we have re-worked our deadlines and endeavour to have:

  • trousers and new white blouse available in Term 3
  • shorts and new summer check shirt available
    in Term 4

Once again, we apologise that we have not been able to begin the new academic year with these new uniform options.

We look forward to all students having the opportunity to wear the new uniform items in Semester 2.

BOOK COVERING

Your daughter’s exercise books can be covered to protect them from wear and tear and help her identify her books easily. You are welcome to use any type of book covering, including contact, wrapping paper, brown paper or plastic covers or perhaps your daughter might even like to design her own. Protext brand books come with plastic covers which do not require additional covering unless you wish to do so. Happy covering!

MEET AND GREET DAY WEDNESDAY 27 JANUARY

YEARS PREP - YEAR 6

We will be inviting parents back onto the College campus in 2021 for purposeful visits in response to the easing of COVID-19 restrictions at the end of 2020.

Our Meet and Greet Day has traditionally been held over three sessions during the day. Some of these sessions are very crowded and we are wanting to ensure adults are able to continue safe social distancing practices where necessary. For this reason, we are changing the structure of our Meet and Greet day for 2021.

Parents are invited for a 10-15 minute ‘drop in’ to visit teachers and drop off book packs. Teachers will send home a digital presentation with the information normally shared on this day about routines, homework, units of inquiry and camps/excursions. Primary Prep-Year 6 classrooms will be open from 8:30am until 12 midday and then from 1:00pm-4:30pm. This day is optional and some families may choose to bring materials in on the first day only. For the first three weeks Prep, Year 1 and NEW parents are welcome to bring children to classrooms, but we strongly urge families to drop off if your daughter is confident.

OUTSIDE SCHOOL HOURS CARE

Vacation Care will be operating on this day (6.30am – 6.00pm). Places are limited so please contact the OSHClub on 0475 958 302.

To use the OSHClub service, you MUST be enrolled with them. Enrolments and bookings are made online www.oshclub.com.au

Click on the REGISTER box in the top right-hand corner, then select Moreton Bay College from the drop-down box and follow the prompts.

TWILIGHT PICNIC – FRIDAY 5 FEBRUARY 2021

Join us to welcome new families to the College Community and reconnect with current families as we launch our 120 years of MBC celebrations. RSVP here

PRIMARY ABSENTEES

If your daughter is absent from school or will be arriving late, the College must receive a phone call to the Primary Reception Absentee Line on 07 3249 9360.

Alternatively, you are welcome to send an email to primary@mbc.qld.edu.au.

If your daughter arrives late to school, or is required to leave early, a parent must come to Primary Reception and complete a late arrival/early departure slip prior to collecting her from the classroom.

This is to ensure that your daughter is accounted for at all times and to ensure her safety.

STUDENT DROP-OFF AND COLLECTION

Entrance to the Primary School and P&F Car Park is via Hargreaves Road. Until our school year settles and the girls feel confident about their routine, it is normal for there to be high traffic and some congestion during our peak times of morning drop off and afternoon collection.

Parking is available in the P&F Car Park, which is located beside the Leita Boswell Hall. Students need to be accompanied by an adult to cross the road from the car park to the pathway. Overflow parking on Meet and Greet Day will be off the driveway adjacent to the MBC Chapel.

Last year saw a variety changes to our usual routines. Many of these received positive feedback from staff, students and families alike. Interestingly enough, one of the changes most commented upon was the revision of the drop-off and pick-up procedures. Due to the ever-changing landscape it has been decided that these routines will remain in place throughout 2021 to ensure continuity, regardless of the circumstances. As such, staff supervision will remain at both the Leita Boswell Hall zone and Waller Centre turn-around from 8.00am each morning and again at 2.30pm each afternoon. This will commence from the 28 January. Please see this PDF for more information.

For new students, Prep and Year 1 families, there will be the option of parking in the P&F carpark and walking students to and from classrooms. Once the children are settled we hope to transition all students to the ‘kiss and go’ routine ready for Term 2.

Please also respect that the parking bays outside the Child Care Centre and Prep facility are strictly for the families of these students ONLY and are for short term (5 minute) parking.

Your patience is always appreciated whilst driving on our College campus. The safety of our families is paramount.

Please note: Secondary student drop off and pick up must be via the Wondall Road entrance unless the Secondary student is accompanying a younger sibling in Primary.

SCHOOL STARTING TIMES

In Primary, classes begin at 8.25am and we expect that students are in class ready to start work at this time. Therefore, it is necessary for students to arrive between 8.00am and 8.15am to prepare for the day and put their tuckshop in the tuckshop box.

Students must not arrive before 8.00am, unless at a designated practice or lesson. Primary students who arrive before 8.00am must go to Before School Care.

AFTERNOON FINISHING TIMES

The finishing times for Primary students are staggered so that traffic flow is more effective. Parents are asked not to arrive before the designated time for student pick-up in the afternoon. Secondary parents should not arrive before 3.10pm and preferably later for the first week or so.

Please move to the top of the roundabout and staff will send students to their cars. Remain in the car and stay in the queue.

Collection times are:

Prep - 2.30pm

Year 1 – 2.35pm

Year 2 – 2.40pm

Year 3 – 2.45pm

Year 4 – 2.50pm

Years 5 and 6 – 3.00pm

Parents who are collecting more than one daughter are asked to arrive at the time the eldest daughter is due to be picked up. Students in Years 1 to 3 will stay in the classroom until collected by an elder sister. Girls in Years 4 to 6 will meet sisters at the pick-up point.

A special reminder that no girl may wait unattended within the College grounds in the afternoon. This also means that girls cannot attend training sessions in which they are not involved (e.g. watching her sibling train). This is a duty of care issue and parents are asked to make arrangements with Outside School Hours Care if a student needs to wait at the College beyond 3.20pm which is when car duty finishes. NOTICE FROM HEALTH CENTRE STUDENTS WITH ASTHMA

As we start the school year this is a reminder to ensure students with asthma are equipped to manage their asthma while at school. The College requires all students with asthma to provide an in-date reliever puffer and spacer for use at school. This spacer and medication can either be kept with your daughter or stored in the Health Centre. The College also requires a current asthma action plan completed by a medical practitioner if one has not been provided recently.

The nursing and teaching staff at Moreton Bay College are required to administer puffers via spacers. The Asthma Foundation encourages the use of spacers, you can find more information on this at https://www.asthmaaustralia.or...

Where a spacer has not been provided, staff will use a disposable spacer and families will be charged accordingly.

Please ensure that your daughter has both a named spacer and reliever puffer available for her use at school.

  • shorts and new summer check shirt available in Term 4

Once again, we apologise that we have not been able to begin the new academic year with these new uniform options. We look forward to all students having the opportunity to wear the new uniform items in Semester 2.

NEW BOOK BAGS

The Moreton Bay College Uniform Committee have approved an additional bag to the College uniform. Students will be permitted to use the ‘MBC Book Bag’ to carry books, laptops and stationery items between classes throughout the day. ‘MBC Book Bags’ are to remain at school at all times, they are not permitted to be used to and from school in place of the College bag. While it is optional to use a book bag, if students choose to carry their books in a bag from class to class, it will need to be the MBC book bag, which is available from the MBC Uniform Shop for $20.

STUDENT TIMETABLES

Students are emailed when their timeteable is made available in Student Café. New students to the Secondary College will be able to access their timetable in the IT Induction sessions.

APPLICATION TO CHANGE SUBJECTS

Following reflection over the holidays on results and/or future directions, students may wish to apply for a change to their programme of study. If this is the case, the following procedures need to be followed:

1.     Download the ‘Change of Subject' application form

2.     Meet with the relevant staff as identified on the application form and gather required signatures

3.     Submit the form to Student Reception

4.     Email TandLOffice@mbc.qld.edu.au to arrange a time to meet with Ms Stecher, Deputy Head of Secondary (Teaching and Learning)

After the meeting has taken place, students will receive email advice on the outcome of the application along with an updated copy of their timetable where applicable.

TEXTBOOK HIRE COLLECTION

Students in Years 7-12 are issued with their appropriate book hire texts from the Secondary Library in the first week of school.

The Secondary Library will be issuing book hire texts on the following dates

Year 7 students – Wednesday 27 January 2021 within allocated class time

Year 8 students – Friday 29 January 2021 before school, morning tea and lunch

Year 9 students – Friday 29 January 2021 before school, morning tea and lunch

Year 10 students – Friday 29 January 2021 before school, morning tea and lunch

Year 11 students – Thursday 28 January 2021 before school, morning tea and lunch

Year 12 students –Thursday 28January 2021 before school, morning tea and lunch

Before texts are issued, new students must supply book hire contracts signed by both themselves and their parents. These contracts will have been issued previously in their information packs sent by the Registrar. Access to digital textbooks and learning resources will also be provided.

ISSUING ARRANGEMENTS

All students are asked to select their relevant texts, to check immediately for any damage, graffiti etc., to write their names on the date due slips inside the books, and to present them at the library desk with their ID cards (Years 7-12) for processing. (Each text has a unique barcode number on the back). Students are then reminded to clearly label the front of all their books with their name and form class to prevent them from being mistakenly picked up throughout the year by other students.

Students are asked to present any problem books with stains, water damage, graffiti, etc. to the Head of Libraries, as soon as possible, to exchange these books or have the damage noted, so that they will not be held responsible for the same at the conclusion of the loan.

SECONDARY LIBRARY HOURS

The Secondary Library is now open from Monday – Friday from 7.00am – 5.30pm every school day.

Note: Before and after school library use is for quiet private study or research.

COVID-19

We return to school in 2021 with COVID-19 still continuing to be an issue within our community.

With this in mind please remember if your child is unwell or displays any of the following symptoms they are to remain at home and seek medical advice.

  • temperature
  • fever
  • runny nose
  • cough
  • sore throat
  • upset tummy

If a student presents to school or class unwell or with any of the symptoms above, they will be advised to attend the Health Centre for assessment.

All students attending the Health Centre will have their temperature taken and will be then triaged as per College procedures and Queensland Health directions.

If a student is deemed unwell and not to return to class a parent and or emergency contact will be contacted. The expectation is that the child will be collected within 30 minutes of the phone call.

STUDENTS WITH ASTHMA

As we start the school year this is a reminder to ensure students with asthma are equipped to manage their asthma while at school. The College requires all students with asthma to provide an in-date reliever puffer and spacer for use at school. This spacer and medication can either be kept with your daughter or stored in the Health Centre. The College also requires a current asthma action plan completed by a medical practitioner if one has not been provided recently.

The nursing and teaching staff at Moreton Bay College are required to administer puffers via spacers. The Asthma Foundation encourages the use of spacers, you can find more information on this at

https://www.asthmaaustralia.or...

Where a spacer has not been provided, staff will use a disposable spacer and families will be charged accordingly.

Please ensure that your daughter has both a named spacer and reliever puffer available for her use at school.
