The teaching of Studies of Society and The Environment is challenging and interesting for teachers and students. New material from the Australian Curriculum inform the development of the Years 1-10 school-based programs. SOSE provides opportunities for students to see the world from a range of perspectives, while learning to “know” and “do” various aspects of topic material. It also provides the opportunity for students to develop a knowledge and understanding of Australian society, other cultures, historical developments and to become aware of the importance of values and beliefs.
We are increasingly becoming a more global community and an understanding of how we communicate with others around the world is vital. Year level and class programs allow students to become familiar with the different approaches to learning, which include the investigative and the inquiry models. Studies at all levels contribute to the development of the MBC graduate and the identified and desired College attributes.
Students are provided with many opportunities to share their interests, their knowledge and their particular skills through class and project work, which may be individual, small group and whole class focussed. Information Technology and Literacy are integrated into the SOSE units of work and many exciting experiences are completed throughout the year at all levels.
