In the Primary School, the aim of lessons is for the girls to enjoy learning about God and to be able to see how the Christian faith is important in all aspects of life. This is done by reading the Bible, Bible story books and books about Christian character, completing worksheets and booklets, watching dvds and YouTube clips, playing games and doing role plays. These different activities help the girls to know and understand the Christian message, and to see how it is relevant to everyday life. Singing songs is a popular way of learning more about God and the Christian faith. It prepares the students for Chapel Services and Assemblies too.
In Year 7, students use a variety of strategies to learn about Christianity, they use the internet to investigate an Old Testament woman of faith, and they read novels and view dvds to consider how women of faith live today. Students are not assessed in Religious Education in the Primary School, though they are expected to contribute by working in groups, give presentations to the class, and view different movies and express their opinions.
Each Tuesday morning, students have a Chapel Service. The Years 4 to 7 attend worship in the Bayside Uniting Church. The Year 1, 2 and 3 classes have their joint Chapel Services in the College Centenary Chapel, that was donated by the Old Girls' Association. Some class lessons are held in the chapel building to allow for special times of worship, prayer and reflection.
There are weekly Primary Assemblies, at which parents are always welcome. Usually a class or a Year 7 leadership group will host the Assembly and the girls may showcase something they have been learning in class or working on as leaders. We often celebrate special events together at this time. Chaplain Mac leads a time of reflection and prayer, which includes a song and the Blessing.
