Haynes Era

In 2006 Ms Jennifer Haynes was appointed as the seventh Principal of Moreton Bay College.  Ms Haynes had previously been employed at Mentone Girls' Grammar School, where she was Acting Principal and prior to that, Deputy Principal.  Ms Haynes is acknowledged as one of Australia’s leading educators, having been President of the Australian Association of Teachers of English for four years, been Australian delegate to the International Federation for Teaching English, Chair of the Australian Literacy Foundation and a member of the Commonwealth Minister for Education’s Teacher Advisory Body.  Ms Haynes has also had an active involvement at state level where she was a member of the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority, the P-10 Curriculum Committee and the Post Compulsory Curriculum Committee.  Her extensive work was rewarded in 2005 by her being made a Fellow of the Australian College of Educators.

2006 saw the completion and grand opening of the MBC Music Centre and Power Family Concert Hall at a cost in excess of $6.0M.

In 2007, Moreton Bay College won both the Mollie Gould Cup for Swimming and the Stephens Trophy for Athletics for the first time in MBC history.  This feat was repeated in 2008.

The graduates of 2006 and 2007 achieved outstanding academic results, which saw MBC described as the "most successful of the State's all girls schools".  In 2008, the results of the graduating class saw MBC earn the title of "Queensland's No. 1 Academic Achiever for 2008" by the Courier Mail.

In 2008, Mrs Ngaire Tagney resigned as of Head of Primary, and Mrs Rebecca Lennon was appointed to the position in 2009.

In July 2011, Moreton Bay College and Moreton Bay Boys’ College amalgamated, signaling a historical turning point in the College’s evolution. Retaining their separate identities, single sex focus, governance and financial management, the two were constitutionally joined by a common Board membership and the appointment of Ms Haynes approved as Principal of both schools. Dr Deborah Priest was appointed as Head of College of Moreton Bay College; Mr Tony Wood as Head of College of Moreton Bay Boys’ College and Mrs Helen Gabriel was also appointed as Director of Business and Finance across the two schools.

2013 saw continued successes across multiple sports and consistent academic achievement. The first phase of the Facilities Master Plan also saw building work commence with expansion of the Prep Centre to three classrooms and ground broken on the new Science Facility, which was officially opened in February 2014.

During recent years, the College has continued to establish itself as a premier co-curricular school offering a diverse program of music, drama, the arts and a wide range of sports. The broad subject offering evolved to also provide a range of pathways, including vocational and academic opportunities to students.

Moreton Bay College continues to be one of this country’s finest independent girls’ schools and pre-eminent in the education of young women in Queensland.
