Together We Are Stronger - 8 September 2016
The Moreton Bay Colleges will be acknowledged as leaders in single sex education, nurtured and guided by our common values and shared philosophy – Together we are Stronger. Our college vision very concisely defines both present practices and also describes the preferred future we are creating.
As two single sex schools we believe that boys and girls learn best in classrooms, academically and to some extent pastorally free from the stereotypes and bias that occur in wider society. While young people are still developing and cementing their values and beliefs they should be protected from some of society’s ills while also learning about them from the safety of our colleges.
We do, however, have a responsibility to create opportunities where boys and girls can interact, collaborate and learn from each other. The simple realities are that one day our girls who have only had girls in their classes will have boys in their workplaces, their social lives and in university lecture theatres. This is equally true for our boys.
The Moreton Bay Colleges are in the wonderful situation of having the best of both worlds; being neither a co-educational school or a traditional single sex school with their respective downsides. We are indeed in a fortunate situation.
