Languages other than English
For Australians who wish to participate effectively in global affairs, an understanding of other languages and cultures is beneficial. French and Japanese are taught in the Primary School. From 2015, students from Year 2 will learn French as a second language. Students in Year 6 undertake one semester each of French and Japanese. Our program focuses on our students developing practical communication skills in a range of spoken and written texts.
Bienvenue a la page de francais a Moreton Bay College!
The aim of our programme is to foster a love of the French language and culture. Role plays, poems, songs, games and dances are performed individually and in group settings. Both realistic and more imaginative scenarios are provided for the girls to use the language, and they are free to approach tasks in their preferred way. Although the unit topics are different, they share a common vocabulary to allow the girls to consolidate their learning, especially in the recognition and use of words.
Welcome to Japanese at Moreton Bay College. ようこそいらっしゃいました！The study of Japanese has an integral role in student’s learning at Moreton Bay College and is offered from Years 6 – 12. Throughout this time students are exposed to the many facets of language acquisition including culture, history and society.
In the first term the main focus is on developing speaking and listening skills, whereas in the second term, the students are also introduced to the unique writing scripts. We encourage our students to think in the target language, which is a better way to develop their language skills and to enhance flexible thinking when they face various situations and problems, rather than a word-by-word translation study.
Students have an opportunity to interact with Japanese secondary students who visit our school every year. Primary language studies are followed by the Secondary studies. Exchange programs in the Secondary School provide a wonderful opportunity for the students to further enhance their understanding.
