Principal's Welcome

Moreton Bay Collete Principal James Sloman

Welcome to the Moreton Bay College website. As you read through the pages of this site, you will learn about our wonderful students and our College. Importantly, you will begin to get a sense of how the College feels as a place for both learning and growth. It is vital for us as a College community that your child grows into a wonderful young woman prepared for the world and for their future.

As you view the pages of our website you will get a feel for the vibrancy and strength of our College. This is only the start however!

At MBC our students are encouraged to extend themselves intellectually and to strive to achieve - whether this is in the classroom, on the playing field or on the stage. For a young girl to grow into a woman capable of dealing with any of life's challenges they need a school experience that allows them to have both a breadth of mind, and depth of heart.

Moreton Bay College has a long tradition educating girls. The College was founded in 1901 by Miss Alison Greene and her sister Anne. The College has had a strong philosophy of educating the whole person – body, mind, heart and spirit. The focus on academic excellence, underpinned by a rich and caring pastoral program serves as the foundation of the educational experience for our girls. This is coupled with a vibrant and strong co-curricular program across visual and performing arts, cultural activities and a wide range of sports.

Girls need an environment that gives both boundaries and freedom to explore and experiment, to take risks, to debate and challenge. Moreton Bay College provides this and our outstanding teaching staff strive to ensure girls achieve their personal best, embrace the opportunities to develop as leaders, to volunteer, to develop courage to overcome and to act with integrity. As a single sex College for girls they are free to be themselves and to build a strong and resilient self-esteem.

Choosing a school can be one of the most challenging and difficult decisions a parent can make. While this can seem to be overwhelming it is worth remembering that it really is an investment in your child's future. I believe you can feel a great school and it is only by visiting Moreton Bay College that you will get a feeling for the values and culture present. As a Christian school in the Uniting Church tradition our school is committed to fostering the personal, moral and academic growth of our students through the school values of;

Engagement – We live and learn with passion, enthusiasm and resourcefulness. We embrace innovation and creativity to contribute to and shape the future.

Character – We act with integrity and goodwill in all that we do. We show courage and resilience.

Care – We care for ourselves, others and the environment. We nurture the best in each other.

Teamwork – we are open-minded and respectful towards each other. We work collaboratively to achieve our common purpose.

I encourage each and every parent to look for the school that best suits the needs and interests of their daughter. Moreton Bay College has an abundance of opportunities for girls to explore, and to discover their strengths.

For a child to shine they need a school that cares for them; cares about them. To shine they need to be safe and free from harm and bullying. To shine they need to learn from kind, patient and intelligent teaching. For girls to shine they need to have strong and firm boundaries and feel they are respected. This is the foundation of the Moreton Bay College experience and I invite you to become a part of this very special place!

Keep shining.
